Immunotherapy
Allergen immunotherapy is a medical treatment for environmental allergies, such as insect bites and asthma. Doctors are able to identify which allergen(s) patients are allergic to, by using a battery of skin tests. The allergens identified are then used to desensitize the patient following a well formulated sublingual treatment program. PHARMCO INC. accepts sublingual allergy drop prescriptions and can custom compound it in accordance to the patient’s prescription. We support our patients throughout the entire process. We are available in person, by phone, or online for question or concerns regarding immunotherapy products and our services. If you are interested to learn more, please feel free to contact us.
What is sublingual immunotherapy?
Sublingual immunotherapy is a custom formula, tailored to your allergies and prescribed by your healthcare provider. This mixture is a liquid, administered under the tongue in the form of drops. With a gradual increase in concentrations; sublingual immunotherapy is designed to desensitize you from specific allergens.
How do I take my allergy drops?
Place drop(s) under the tongue as prescribed and hold for maximal mucosal absorption. For best results, wait at least 30 minutes after drops to eat or drink. A good time for daily dosing might be after a meal or at bedtime as you will not be eating or drinking for awhile. The drops may stimulate salivation and it is perfectly safe to swallow the drops.
How long must I continue the treatment?
Patients are usually treated for 3 to 5 years.
What happens if I miss a dose?
For best results, it’s important to take your medication daily. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. There is no need to take two doses to make up a missed dose. Please call your health care provider if you have questions or concerns for having missed multiple doses.
What are the side effects for allergy drops?
When proper treatment is administered, side effects from oral immunotherapy are rare and mild if any. If you experience any serious side effects, you should contact your health care provider immediately. Potential side effects may include, but are not limited to: runny nose, skin rash, hives, itching. Please feel free to contact us if you have more questions.
