What kind of compounded creams are used for pain management?
Many of the active ingredients effective for pan management can penetrate the skin and reach the painful targeted area of the body. Active pharmaceuticals include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (e.g. Ketoprofen, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, etc.) or numbing agents (e.g. Lidocaine, Tetracaine, Benzocaine) have demonstrated efficacy and are often used in combination as a topical cream. Other ingredients (e.g. cyclobenzaprine, gabapentin, etc.) can be mixed into a cream as determined by your prescriber (as a muscle relaxant, neurogenic pain, etc.). Compounded topical NSAIDS in combination with Lidocaine (Ketoprofen and Lidocaine) happens to be one of the more popular compounds.
