Veterinarian Compounding

We customize your pet's prescription and ensure compliance. Pets can get tired or dislike the taste of medication they need daily. Many of the appropriate doses are not commercially available, but at PHARMCO INC. we can compound whatever strength needed.

Why is compounding necessary for my pet?

Pet prescriptions are usually not available commercially, due to the size of the pet and dosage form needed. Rather than try to fit your pet into the one-size-fits-all mold that drug companies developed (i.e. pills with limited available strengths for humans), we take into account your pet’s individual needs (size, age, species, ideal dosage form, flavoring, etc.) and customize the prescription to suit their very specific needs. As a compounding pharmacy, unlike your typical chain retail, we can make the medication per prescription for each pet patient in our licensed state of the art compounding laboratory.

What dosage form of medications is best for my pet?

The appropriate dosage form is critical for compliance in order to achieve the therapeutic effect. Dosage form is determined in consideration of several factors: type of animal, stability of the drug once mixed into liquid, duration of treatment (a few days vs. indefinitely). In many cases certain species of animals are only capable of ingesting liquid or prefer chews. For this reason, it is important that the compounded medications are stable in the dosage form preferred, whether a liquid, chew, or capsule. Once the ideal dosage form is determined, based on drug stability and the dosage form acceptable to the pet, we then proceed to compound.

What flavors are available?

We offer many flavors to choose from to accommodate your pet. Flavoring added to the compounded medication can help make medication more palatable. Some pets crave chicken, beef, and tuna flavor or others prefer something sweet and salty (fruit, peanut butter, etc). Feel free to call us for special request.

How are liquids packaged for administration?

Oral suspensions or liquids are delivered in amber bottles containing an easy to use cap and an oral syringe, to prevent waste and mess. We are confident that our oral liquids will meet the needs of every patient and pet owner.

What are micro tablets?

Micro tablets are small compressed round tablets with quick dissolving properties, making them an immediate favorite for many. They melt quickly in the mouth, easy to administer or can be added to food. It is available for most medications up to 50mg in strength.

Do I need a prescription to order?

Yes. If you do not have a prescription yet, call us with your preferred dosage form and flavor. We will contact your veterinarian's office on your behalf to get the prescription approved. Once approved, please allow approximately 7 days for compounding and delivery.  For urgent orders, we will do our best to accommodate.

What is the turnaround time?

We take pride in our industry’s best turn-around times. As each medication has to be made or compounded in our laboratory it does take time and there is no rushing on the formulation stepwise procedures.  Please allow approximately 7 business days for new and refill orders plus shipping time. We will do our best to accommodate your needs so there is no lapse in treatment.  As always, advance notice of orders on refill requests are greatly appreciated.

How are medications shipped to me?

We provide FREE shipment by USPS for compounded prescriptions, except when refrigerated packaging requires overnight shipment. USPS usually delivers within 3-7 days.  GLSO and FEDEX are also shipment options available for a fee. The fee depends on weight of the package and distance of destination. Please call us for more information on any specific requests.
